PAST CONTINUOUS

Lesson 10: Past Continuous

1.  Zastosowanie:
·         czynności, które miały miejsce w przeszłości, i trwały dłuższy czas.
2.  Konstrukcja:
    • zdania twierdzące:
I was writing a letter for all day yesterday.
When he was reading a book the telephone rang.
    • pytania:
Were you writing a letter yesterday?
    • zaprzeczenia:
You weren’t reading a book all yesterday evening.
     3.  Charakterystyczne określenia czasu:
all day yesterday, all night, all the afternoon, from 12:00 to 13:00, for 2 hours, this time yesterday; while (używamy z czasem Past Continuous), when (używamy z Past Simple).

Ćwiczenia:

1.   Uzupełnij zdania czasownikami w czasie Past Continuous.
·         This time yesterday I ________________________ (lie) on a sandy beach.
·         The band _________________ (practice) before a concert for all night.
·         Mary _________________ (read) a book in bed from 10:00 to 11:00.
·         Tommy ________________ (ride) his bike for 3 hours in the morning.

2.   Zaznacz poprawne formy czasowników:
While we talked/were talking in the living room, the kids played/were playing in the garden. Jill just talked/was talking about their trip to Paris when we heard/were hearing a strange noise. We looked/were looking out of the window and saw/were seeing little Jim who stood/was standing on the lawn. It was Mike who first realized/was realizing that the boy choked/was choking. When Mike picked/was picking him up and slapped/was slapping him on the back a little stone came/was coming out of Jim’s mouth.

3.   Uzupełnij zdania czasownikami z nawiasów w czasie Past Continuous i Past Simple:
·         While we ______________________ (not look), the cat ________________ (jump) on the table and _______________ (steal) one of the fish sticks.
·         It was midnight and we ________________ (sleep) when the doorbell ______________ (ring). It was Jill. She ______________ (not have) the keys to open the door.)
·         Jeff ______________ (watch) TV in bed when he ____________ (hear) some voices outside. He ____________ (look) out of the window and ________________ (see) a group of young people who ____________ (stand) in front of the building.

·         This time yesterday I was lying on a sandy beach.
·         The band was practicing before a concert for all night.
·         Mary was reading a book in bed from 10:00 to 11:00.
·         Tommy was riding his bike for 3 hours in the morning.

2.   Zaznacz poprawne formy czasowników:

  1. Napisała Pani "when (używamy z Past Simple)" , a mimo to użyła go Pani w Past Continous, więc jak to będzie?

    1. Pani chyba chodziło o to, że ,,when" używamy w zdaniu, w którym występuje past continuous i past simple np. :Jill just was talking about their trip to Paris when we heard a strange noise.
      Tak mi się wydaje, ja to tak rozumiem ;)

  3. Hmm, mam dla Pani pewną radę, żeby na przyszłość mogła Pani ustrzec się błędów. Mianowicie, przed wrzuceniem materiału na bloga bądź Youtube, niech po prostu ktoś także, kto zna angielski, po prostu sprawdził to. Oczywiście nie jest to złośliwość, bo muszę przyznać robi Pani kawał dobrej roboty, ale szkoda, żeby Pani uczniowie na etapie chociażby podstaw uczyli się z błędami ;-)
