1. Zastosowanie:

·         czynności, które miały miejsce w przeszłości, w pewnym określonym momencie i zostały zakończone,

·         czynności, które miały miejsce w przeszłości regularnie,

2. Konstrukcja:
1. zdania twierdzące:

I started writing the letter yesterday.

He bought a new car the day before yesterday.

2. pytania:

Did you buy a new car the day before yesterday?

3. zaprzeczenia:

You didn’t buy a new car the day before yesterday.

     3.  Charakterystyczne określenia czasu:

yesterday, the day before yesterday, last week (Monday, month, year), ago (2 days ago, 3 months ago)

• Do większości czasowników regularnych dodajemy końcówkę -ed.
• Do czasowników zakończonych na –y dodajemy tylko –ed (stay – stayed)
• Jeżeli czasownik kończy się na –y przed którym jest spółgłoska, opuszczamy –y i dodajemy końcówkę –ied (study – studied)
